The Moonshot is an international alliance implementing a multilateral collaborative framework to tackle the challenges of floating offshore wind in terms of commercial deployment.
The alliance features DI Danish Energy Industries (DI Energy) of Denmark, the Floating Offshore Wind Technology Research Association of Japan (FLOWRA), France Energies Marines of France (FEM), Holland Home of Wind Energy of The Netherlands (HHWE), Innovation Norway of Norway, and the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult of the United Kingdom.
The talk will introduce the conclusion of the working groups gathered during in October 2025, in Kyoto, Japan to set-up the foundations of the alliance roadmap.
The talk will focus on the findings of the research committee and will cover the following challenges to be tackled :
- feasibility : Supply chain readiness , Smart marine spatial planning , very deep water FOW, Environmental impact / stakeholders acceptance / local content

- Europe needs credible pathways from pilots to multi‑GW commercial delivery. The UK now combines policy clarity, auction visibility, and grid reform that collectively derisk first‑wave giga-scale FLOW.
- Scale and maturity reduce risk and cost. Nadara now leads the UK floating portfolio by capacity (4.4 GW) and project count, positioned among the earliest to grid.
- Investor confidence and cost-reduction follow standardisation and volume. From a supply chain perspective, this hinges on serial production of foundations, industrialised moorings, and port assembly capacity.
- A clear regulatory environment for grid delivery and certainty on connections is key enabler for risk reduction.
- Confidence is the multiplier - when capital is certain about policy, grid, supply chains and risk allocation, FLOW could deliver faster and cheaper.
